The Woman Behind The Women’s Direction
A life of creativity inescapable given her theatrical upbringing she appeared in many musicals, plays, and roving performances from the age of five to adulthood. However, the lure of what lay behind the scenes soon overpowered her desire to be in the spotlight. Finishing the HSC with a Band 6 short film under her belt, she completed a Bachelor of Media (Screen & Sound) at UNSW where she wrote and directed her second short film, The Coat.
After graduating, McKenzee went straight into the workforce as a Program Coordinator at the Australian Film Television & Radio School before working as a Production Assistant in the crazy world of TV commercials. Her proudest accomplishment thus far, however, has been starting her business The Women’s Direction, which aims to dismantle gender inequality in the film & TV industry by supporting women and non-binary filmmakers.
McKenzee has never turned down an opportunity to create, whether crafting a video for a client or a personal project. Her passion for bringing diverse voices to the forefront and telling unique stories guiding everything she makes.
